Everyone wants to be happy. As children, and still as adults, we want to believe Jiminy Cricket's lullabuy, "When you wish upon a star makes no difference who you are, when you wish upon a star your dreams come true."
The Secret, a movie produced by Rhonda Byrne of Prime Time Productions and which was featured February 8th on the Oprah show, introduced a panel of philosophers, scientists, visionaries and entrepreneurs that teach the Secret's basic tenure of creating one's personal reality.
What is the Secret? And why have these teachings, dating as far back as ancient Babylonia, Mesopotamia and Egyptian times been buried? One answer is that these hidden mysteries are no longer stuffed into earthen jars covered by the sands of time in fear of blasphemy or even worse, death. Archeologists, anthropologists and historians during the seventies and eighties pursued the study of this ancient wisdom and brought it to the masses. Today's modern world believes more than ever in individual freedom. One click on Google and you can open your mind to a new way of being. The simplest and yet most difficult concept to grasp of the Secret is that happiness is a birthright. Everyone can create wealth, health, love, and abundance according to the Secret, because we are the creators of our realities. We create everything, the good, the bad and the ugly. That is why you must learn to use the Secret correctly.
In the ancient concept of Kabalistic knowledge, "bitachon" shows us how we can use the Secret to its most uplifting outcome. Bitachon teaches that the universe is alive with joy; nothing lacking, perfect in all ways. When we live in this joyful manner of life we can create ourselves new in each moment.
The quest for happiness is not a new one. What is new is the re-discovery of the Universal Law of Attraction, as real as the Law of Gravity. The Law of Attraction directs every one of us, consciously or unconsciously. Quantum physics, the scientific validation of the Law of Attraction says that the mind shapes what you perceive. Bob Procter, one of the narrators of The Secret asserts, "Like attracts like. Thoughts and emotions have a frequency and send out a magnetic signal. Whatever you chronically think about is what you are creating for your future. Your present reality is the residual of past thoughts and feelings. The Law of attraction is forever in action."
As a Psychospiritual therapist, the first question I ask is, "What do you want?" Most reply, "I want to be happy." When I ask specifically what that means for them, their answers lack conviction and clarity. To make matters more poignant, most of the individuals I work with are experienced in various types of spiritual and psychological practices. They've read Louise Hay, Wayne Dyer, Deepak Chopra, Marion Williamson, Course in Miracles, and are students of Esther and Abraham Hicks, the most sought after teachers of the Law of Attraction. However, "true" happiness eludes them. How the Law of Attraction works
• Everything is energy
• Thoughts and feelings are energy • Energy attracts energy
• The stronger you feel about something and the more you think about it, the faster you will attract it: positive or negative.
• Whether consciously or unconsciously, what you think and feel PRESENTLY creates your future.
Some people believe: If I just think positively, repeatedly affirm and only do happy things the Law of attraction will accommodate me. However, intellect and imagination without feeling won't have the power to manifest.
How to become a Deliberate Creator
• Ask: What do you really want? It has to be specific. You have to see it, feel it and visualize it. The universe will then start to rearrange itself to bring you what you are wanting. Then find ways to stay in the excited anticipation of the magic of the universe. You need to bring "bitachon" into your life, the birthright of joy, without conditions or expectations. True happiness is a spiritual attribute and unconditional joy and gratitude needs to be the foundation of your desire. Even if you are sick, with no job or love on the horizon, you need to have faith and trust that the universe is working for you....
• Belief - We cannot talk ourselves into believing we deserve happiness. We have to feel it at the core of our being. One must be ready to let go, allow and surrender old habits and ways of perceiving to make room to heal feelings that once convinced you that you do not deserve unconditional happiness.
• Receive: The universe will show up in ways and take you on a mysterious journey. You cannot direct its route. You must be ready to receive whatever opportunity comes your way. Receiving means trust...trust that the universe will get you there, but you must release the steering wheel. Follow the road one miraculous step at a time. When you do this, coincidences, intuitions, and inspired thought will pop up from nowhere showing you the way. You cannot doubt these messengers and messages. Let go and follow the clues.
HOW DO YOU STAY ON TRACK?
Practice and Process
• Imagination - Use all of your senses: smell, touch, taste and inner sight. Be in your body filling yourself up with joy and delight. The brain cannot tell the difference between a fully sense felt experience vs. a physical one. Denis Waitley, a psychologist working with Olympic runners, used sense visualization with athletes guiding them to see and feel their performance in their mind's eye and they performed exactly in accordance to their inner knowing.Script it. Write your dream as if it already happened. Allow for all of your resistance and negative thoughts to come up. Keep redirecting your focus into the present feelings of joy and anticipation of your bliss.
• Create a vision board, a collage of words, images and pictures that portray your desires. Dream with it every day, feel the excitement grow. Wake up anticipating the next clue on your treasure hunt to materialize.
• Listen to uplifting music, be in nature, watch inspiring films, read books that radiate with the love of life, learn the art of meditation in the practice of being present in the NOW.
• Examine your life inwardly and outwardly. If you are alive in each moment you will not cling to the past or the future. You will cling to the exuberance of what you love. Make a choice to delight in the pleasure of being alive.
In the course the Kabbalah of Character, taught by Rabbi Gutnik in Parkland it states, "All of life exists within this moment. It all happens in a flash. It is weaving similar to the miraculous functioning of your body where billions of simultaneous events occur outside of your awareness, yet impact upon our being. When you are completely present in each moment, you are also present with the future that is contained in that moment. This is Bitachon, the love of life, from within... then all will come to you." This is the greatest Secret you can ever know.
